What is a commission, and how does it work?

 

In woodworking, a commission refers to a private order where a client hires a woodworker to create a custom, unique piece tailored their specific needs, bridging the gap between mass-produced items and personalized requests.

 

To begin, simply send me an email with your idea or concept. We can discuss your vision through a phone call, a Zoom meeting, or in person over a brew. I'll inquire about your budget, design preferences, functionality, dimensions, and the intended space for the piece, as well as any additional thoughts you may have.

 

Following our conversation, I will draft a design based on your specifications and may create a scaled-down model if required. Once you're satisfied with the design, I'll provide you with a quote including a price and an estimated completion date.

 

To proceed, I require a 50% deposit, which covers material costs and reserves your spot in my schedule. I will then order the materials and keep you updated throughout the building process, from material delivery in my workshop to completion.

 

Please note, once we agree a design, changes to the design can only be made with mutual agreement and may involve additional costs, not always, but it's worth noting.

 

Upon completion, the final payment is due before the piece is collected or shipped.
